The Italian police have revealed the names of 13 people arrested today as part of the operation that destroyed a criminal group that trafficked drugs from Albania and distributed them in Fondi.

Among the 13 arrested persons, there is also the Albanian A. Sh., 39 years old, previously investigated in the framework of the "Giano" operation in June 2022.

In the early hours of the morning, 80 carabinieri from the Latina and Catania command in Italy were engaged in an operation to execute 13 arrest warrants against suspects of international drug trafficking from Italy.

Kilograms of drugs coming from Albania were hidden in trucks thanks to improvised places inside them. It is about cocaine, hashish and marijuana, ready to be sold in the Pontine area between Fondi and Terracina, a particularly thriving market according to investigators.

The arrested are all residents of Fondi, with some special precedents and have been competing for the local market for years.

Only one of them, some time ago, had moved to Caltagirone, in the province of Catania, and was under surveillance by the local carabinieri.

The investigation was triggered by a gun attack, carried out by rivals, in October 2020. No injuries or deaths were reported and the incident remained shrouded in silence.

The carabinieri of the Latina command, however, realized that a war was being waged for the control of drug trafficking areas in the Pontine area, also seizing several drug shipments arriving in Fondi./ CNA
