Kidnapping plot against an Albanian drug trafficker/ Europol arrests 6

An action taken by Europol supported a German-led investigation targeting a group of mercenaries hired by a criminal network to kidnap the Albanian leader of a rival drug trafficking gang.

The operation involved law enforcement authorities from Denmark, France, Latvia and the United Kingdom.

As it is known, the coordinated action focused on Latvian citizens. They were highly trained individuals, equipped with professional equipment and active on behalf of an organized crime group. They were contracted to kidnap the leader of an Albanian drug trafficking network, who is suspected of orchestrating the theft of several tons of cannabis worth millions of euros.

On the day of the action, four individuals were arrested in Denmark, France, Latvia and the United Kingdom, while two others were arrested in Germany.

Some of the suspects in this case are former soldiers of the French Foreign Legion. As the war in Ukraine continues and potentially intensifies in its aftermath, Europe could face a growing number of these well-trained individuals engaging in criminal activities./ CNA
