Von der Leyen: Russia must pay a high price for the war in Ukraine

The European Union on Friday proposed a new package of sanctions against Moscow, including a ban on Russian gold imports and legal changes to prevent current measures that hamper food shipments.

"Russia's brutal war against Ukraine continues unabated. Therefore, today we propose to toughen our sanctions against the Kremlin, implement them more effectively and extend them until January 2023.

Moscow must continue to pay a high price for its aggression," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday, REL informs.

The new measures are considered a limited package of sanctions compared to the six previous sanctions packages imposed since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, which hit Russian financial services, oil and coal. /CNA.a l
