UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday that a deal had been broadly agreed between Russia and Ukraine, with Turkey and the United Nations, to export millions of tonnes of Ukrainian wheat stuck in warehouses since Russian aggression began on February 24.
"Today was an important and fundamental step," Mr Guterres told reporters of developments in talks in Istanbul between the four parties. "A step towards a comprehensive agreement."
The World Food Program says 276 million people worldwide were facing acute hunger earlier this year. They predict that this number will increase by 47 million people if the conflict in Ukraine continues./VOA
