The gunman who killed six people at a US school in Nashville, Tennessee, bought seven guns legally and hid them at home, police said.

Investigators have said that the suspect's parents believed that the 28-year-old had no weapons and never realized that she hid them somewhere in the house.

Six people, including three children aged nine, have died as a result of the attack at Covenant School.

Three school workers were also among the dead. The suspect was "under medical care for an emotional disorder", the police said.

The attack marks the 131st mass shooting in the United States this year, according to the non-governmental organization Gun Violence Archive, which collects data on gun violence.
