US President Joe Biden called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday to abandon a plan to reform the judiciary that would shrink the powers of this system and strengthen government control over it.

The call provoked the reaction of the Israeli leader who said that he does not make decisions based on external pressure.

Mr Netanyahu postponed plans for the changes on Monday after tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest. The White House had initially said that Mr. Netanyahu should seek a compromise on this issue.

Zoti Netanjahu tha se administrata e tij po përpiqej të bënte reforma "me një konsensus të gjerë".

"Unë e njoh Presidentin Biden ptej më shumë se 40 vjetësh dhe e vlerësoj angazhimin e tij ndaj Izraelit," tha ai.

Ai tha se aleanca Izrael-SHBA është e pathyeshme "dhe i tejkalon gjithmonë mosmarrëveshjet e herëpashershme mes nesh.

"My administration is committed to strengthening democracy by restoring the proper balance between the three branches of government, which we are trying to achieve through a broad consensus," Mr. Netanyahu said./ Voa
