At least 5 dead and 20 injured by Russian shelling in Kherson

At least five people were killed and 20 others were injured in Russian clashes in the center of the city of Kherson.

This is what the Ukrainian presidential administration said on December 24.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine posted on Saturday on his Telegram network pictures of people, apparently lifeless, in the center of the city.

The city had recently been liberated from Russian occupation.

"The Russians have again committed terror and shelled the city center," he said. "People have died, buildings have been destroyed."

Many people were out on the streets as it was the weekend, he said.

Ukraine retook Kherson from Russian forces last month.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as another crime by Russia just before Christmas.

He has warned of possible Russian attacks during the holiday season and urged Ukrainians to be vigilant in the coming days.

Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine on February 24 and since October has been carrying out attacks on energy infrastructure, leaving millions of Ukrainians without electricity./REL
