Slovakia decides to send fighter jets to Ukraine

Slovakia on Friday approved a plan to send MiG fighter jets to Ukraine.

Slovakia is the second NATO country, after Poland, to respond positively to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's repeated requests for aircraft in his country's battle against Russian aggression.

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger said his country is "on the right side of history" by sending a fleet of 13 MiG-29 jets to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Russian army and the private forces of the Wagner Group have recently gained ground west of the Bakhmutka River in the city of Bakhmut, according to information from the British Ministry of Defence.

Ukrainian forces continue to defend the western part of the city, according to these reports.

And according to the British Ministry of Defense, the intensity of fighting by Russian forces is among the lowest since January.

"The reason is most likely the weakening of their combat power to the extent that even local offensive actions are not currently sustainable," the Ministry says.

Russian forces are expected to increase their "offensive capacity" as soon as the reserves of personnel and ammunition are replenished, according to British data./ VOA
