Rescue teams from Tajikistan pulled a 3-year-old boy alive from the rubble in the Turkish city of Kahramanmaras.

He had spent 158 ??hours there, the press service of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Tajikistan reported on February 13.

Tajikistan sent a group of 50 rescuers and doctors, as well as 2.5 tons of special equipment to Turkey, to help the country cope with the consequences of the February 6 earthquake.

The United Nations, a day ago, condemned the failure to help the regions of Syria, as it warned that the number of victims from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, which has reached more than 33,000, could double.

Tens of thousands of rescue workers are continuing operations to find survivors, despite freezing temperatures that have worsened the condition of millions of people who now need help.

The UN has warned that at least 870,000 people are in urgent need of warm clothes across Turkey and Syria. In Syria alone, up to 5.3 million people may be left homeless.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake – which was followed by several other powerful earthquakes – in Turkey and Syria, is the seventh deadliest disaster of this century.

An earthquake of similar magnitude in Turkey in 1999 had killed over 17,000 people./REL
