The head of NATO has no intention of extending the mandate

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has no intention of extending his mandate for a fourth time, the military alliance said on Sunday.

"Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's mandate was extended three times and he served a total of almost nine years," spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said.

The mandate of the Secretary General expires in October of this year and he has no intention of seeking another extension of his mandate.

The statement comes after a report by German newspaper Welt am Sonntag that member states wanted him to stay on as Russia wages war in Ukraine.
