The White House has approved another military aid for Ukraine, worth 250 million dollars.

The latest package includes air defense weapons, artillery, small munitions and anti-tank weapons, US officials said.

However, this is the last aid that can be launched by the US in Ukraine, if the US Congress does not approve additional aid.

Ukraine has warned that the war and its public finances will be in grave danger if aid from the West is stopped.

Ukraine has seen little change in the line of control since the launch of the spring counter-offensive, and is now facing a gradual decline in aid from allies in Washington and Europe.

Although support for Ukraine is strong in the US Congress, a deal on further arms shipments has been blocked by Republicans, who insist that more money should be allocated to strengthen US border controls with Mexico.

An emergency spending package, including $50 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel, failed to pass the US Senate last month after every Republican voted against it.

Even a recent visit to the US by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has not been successful in this regard.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has said that it is important that Congress act as soon as possible, "to advance our national interests, helping Ukraine to protect itself and its future".

Earlier this month, an EU aid package for Ukraine was blocked by Hungary.

Ukraine is facing a $43 billion deficit, and Ukrainian officials fear they could delay salaries and pensions for government workers unless additional aid is accepted from the West.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL
