The guard at the British embassy who spied for Russia is sentenced to 13 years

A man who gave extremely sensitive information to Russia while working as a guard at the British embassy in Berlin has been sentenced to 13 years and 2 months in prison by a court in London.

The court heard that David Ballantyne Smith, 58, had been collecting confidential information for more than three years, including "secret" communications of then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other sensitive documents.

Judge Mark Wall said that Smith had carried out these actions between 2020 and 2021 and that the "subversive activities" had started "two years ago".
