US President Joe Biden criticized the International Criminal Court's efforts to seek arrest warrants on war crimes charges for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense minister and three Hamas leaders.

France broke with its Western allies, including the US, Great Britain and Italy, to express support for the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The International Criminal Court announced its decision to seek arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defense minister and Hamas leaders, CNN reports. 

Paris also said it has warned "for many months" of the need for strict compliance with international humanitarian laws and "in particular the unacceptable level of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip and the lack of humanitarian access".

France has been one of the few Western countries willing to take a tougher stance on Israel, including criticizing the US decision to veto cease-fire resolutions at the UN Security Council early on and making call for an immediate ceasefire.

More than 900,000 people, about 40% of Gaza's population, have been displaced in the past two weeks as Israeli bombardment continues across much of the enclave, the UN reported. /CNA
