Meeting with Putin expected/ Iranian Foreign Minister arrives in Russia

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia where he is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. His visit follows a trip to Oman, where he says talks focused on ways to ensure safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

Over the weekend, the Foreign Minister also said he had a very fruitful visit to Islamabad, where he shared Iran's position regarding a workable framework to permanently end the war against Iran.

"I still haven't seen if the US is really serious about diplomacy ," he wrote on social media on Saturday.

Araghchi's comments followed news that US President Donald Trump had canceled plans for US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to visit Islamabad for peace talks with Iran.

Both sides remain paralyzed in a standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, despite Trump's extension of a ceasefire that was due to expire on April 22, to allow talks to continue.

Meanwhile in Lebanon, Israel and Hezbollah continued to exchange attacks amid an uneasy ceasefire. Lebanon's Health Ministry said Israeli airstrikes in the country on Sunday killed 14 people, including two children and two women, and wounded 37 others.

The Israeli military announced that a 19-year-old soldier was killed and six others were wounded by a Hezbollah drone attack in Lebanon. /CNA
