Blocking the road in the north of Kosovo

The Kosovo Police announced that they have closed the border crossings in Jarinje and Bërnjak for the circulation of passengers and vehicles, due to the imposed blockades.

The local Serbs in the north of Kosovo have started setting up blockades on the roads leading to these two border crossings, which connect Kosovo and Serbia, but also in other parts in the north.

"All citizens are informed to use the other border points for circulation", the Police announcement states.

The protest of local Serbs comes a day before the two decisions of the Government of Kosovo, related to Serbian license plates and documents, come into force.

According to the Government's decision, all citizens of Serbia who will enter the territory of Kosovo will be provided with an entry-exit document, which will be valid for 90 days.

With such a document, the citizens of Kosovo have been provided for 11 years, every time they enter the territory of Serbia.

Meanwhile, the deadline for re-registration of cars with license plates bearing the abbreviations of the cities of Kosovo, which are issued by Serbia, will start from August 1. Citizens in Kosovo who want to re-register their cars with RKS (Republic of Kosovo) license plates will have until September 30 to do so.

In the municipalities in the north of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, it is believed that there are 10,000 cars with Serbian license plates, such as KM (Mitrovice of Kosovo), PZ (Prizren), UR (Ferizaj) and the like. REL
