The wrong weather forecast cost two of Hungary's best weather experts their jobs

"Europe's biggest firework display" was scheduled to take place on Saturday evening to celebrate St Stephen's Day, the country's national holiday.

Some 40,000 fireworks were ready to be set off from 240 points along a 5km stretch of the Danube River in central Budapest, in a display usually attended by up to two million people. But seven hours before the scheduled start, the government postponed the event, citing extreme weather forecasts.

Ironically that day the weather was calm and there was no storm. Today the Minister of Innovation Laszlo Palkovics dismissed the heads of the service because of their predictions that turned out to be wrong./ CNA.al
