Pope Francis will meet with relatives of Israeli hostages and a delegation of

Pope Francis is expected to meet next week with relatives of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and, separately, with a Palestinian delegation that will include some Gazans, Vatican sources said today.

Both of these meetings will take place next Wednesday, according to sources who spoke to Reuters.

According to a source, 12 relatives of the hostages will meet with Francis early Wednesday morning, ahead of the Pope's regular weekly audience. Some of them also met with Italian government officials last month.

At the moment, it has not been determined when the meeting with the Palestinian delegation will take place.

Earlier, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See's "number 2," said he believed the release of the hostages and a ceasefire, which Israel is currently ruling out, are the two main goals for resolving the crisis. Parolin confirmed the Pope's meeting with the families of the hostages, but did not give a clear schedule./ CNA
