Oil falls 6% in US / Closes four-week low

Oil prices fell about 6% to a four-week low today, amid concerns that rising interest rates from major central banks could slow the global economy and reduce energy demand.

Also putting pressure on prices, the US dollar this week rose to its highest level since December 2002 against a basket of currencies, making oil more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Kontratat e së ardhmes Brent ranë me 6,69 dollarë ose 5,6 për qind, duke u vendosur në 113,12 dollarë për fuçi, ndërsa nafta e papërpunuar e Teksasit Perëndimor (WTI) ra 8,03 dollarë ose 6,8 për qind, duke u vendosur në 109,56 dollarë.

Reuters raporton se kjo ishte mbyllja më e ulët për Brent që nga 20 maji dhe më e ulëta për WTI që nga 12 maji. Ishte gjithashtu rënia më e madhe e përqindjes ditore për Brent që nga fillimi i majit dhe më e madhja për WTI që nga fundi i marsit.

Për javën, kontratat e së ardhmes Brent ranë për herë të parë në pesë javë, ndërsa WTI ra për herë të parë në tetë javë.

"Crude oil prices fell as the dollar rose. Russia signaled that oil exports should rise and as fears of a global recession grow ," said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at data and analytics firm OANDA.

Global central bankers who quickly eased monetary policy during the pandemic to avert a recession are now tightening to fight inflation.
