Over 33 thousand voters outside Kosovo/ Diaspora could change the result in some

Kosovo held local elections for mayor and municipal assembly on October 12, while citizens abroad also exercised their right to vote.

According to information, 33,258 ballots have arrived from citizens living outside Kosovo, although 43,933 citizens have registered for the elections. While some municipalities have gone to a runoff, the votes of the diaspora could be decisive in dividing the result.

Specifically in Gjilan, the Vetevendosje Movement could win the municipality without a runoff. Alban Hyseni of LVV secured 49.79% of the votes, 0.21% short of the runoff threshold. For the municipality of Gjilan, 2,066 voters from abroad have been registered, who could give the final victory to the LVV candidate.

In the municipality of Hani i Elezit, the 395 citizens registered to vote can also make a difference. This is because in this municipality the result is currently this: Mehmet Ballazhi (PDK) leads with 50.94% or 93 votes more than his opponent Rufki Suma.

The same situation is reported in the municipality of South Mitrovica, where Arian Tahiri of LDK leads by 28 votes over his rival, Faton Peci of LVV. In this municipality, 1,186 registered citizens from the diaspora could overturn the current result.

In the municipality of Junik, where the difference between the candidates is 180 votes, over 1,300 voters registered from outside the border could also change the outcome. Even in the largest municipality in Kosovo, that of Pristina, the difference between Përparim Rama of the LDK and Hajrulla Çeko of the LVV is 721 votes, while 1,715 citizens are registered outside the border. /CNA
