Supreme Leader: Iran demonstrated its power against Israel
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has thanked his country's armed forces for the attack on Israel that Tehran carried out earlier this month, saying the country demonstrated its power regardless of how many targets were hit.

On April 13, Iran fired over 300 missiles and drones at Israel. The Iranian attack, said to be in retaliation for an alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian Embassy building in Damascus on April 1, was the first direct attack on Israel.

Most of the rockets and drones were shot down by Israel and its allies, and the attack caused little damage to Israel.

"The most important question is not how many missiles were launched and how many of them hit the targets. What matters is that Iran demonstrated its power during this operation," Khamenei said on April 21.

On Friday, explosions were reported in the Iranian city of Isfahan. US media, citing sources within the US Government, said that Israel was behind the airstrikes.

Israel has not commented on the reports.

Tehran downplayed the incident and said it has no plans to retaliate.

Iranian state media quoted officials in Tehran as saying the blasts were caused by air defense systems, which shot down three drones.

"In the last operation, the armed forces managed to minimize costs and maximize benefits," Khamenei said, calling on the military to "constantly pursue military innovations and learn about the enemy's tactics."

For decades, Israel and Iran have been sworn enemies. But the April 13 attack by Iran and the April 19 attack attributed to Israel were the first attacks on each other's soil./ REL
