KOSTT: From today, energy in the north will be paid the same as in the rest of
High voltage line in Kosovo.

The Operator of the System, Transmission and Market of Kosovo (KOSTT) announced that from January 1, 2024, in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, the electricity consumed has started to be registered.

According to the head of KOSTT, Evetar Zeqiri, the energy consumed in the northern part of Kosovo, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, will be paid the same as in the rest of the country.

"On January 1, 2024, starting at 00:01, the supplier Elektrosever Sh.pk, - a company licensed and registered under the laws of the Republic of Kosovo - has begun to nominate energy for the four northern municipalities. So it has begun to take responsibility for energy consumption in the north. After more than 20 years, the energy consumed in the northern part will be paid the same as in the rest of the country's territory," he wrote on Facebook.

At the beginning of December 2023, the European Union announced that the Serbian company, Elektrosever, had signed a commercial contract for energy with the Kosovar Electricity Distribution Company (KEDS).

Elektrosever is owned by the energy company of Serbia, EPS (Elektroprivreda Srbije).

This company received the operating license from the Office of the Energy Regulator of Kosovo (ERO) on June 24, 2023.

On June 21 of the same year, Kosovo and Serbia signed the roadmap for the implementation of the Energy Agreement, which was reached in 2013 within the dialogue mediated by the European Union.

However, neither the agreement nor the guide was implemented. The agreement signed within the dialogue aims to regulate the issue of electricity supply and billing for the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo: North Mitrovica, Zveçan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.

The citizens of these municipalities have not paid for the energy used since 1999. Over the years, their debt has been paid by the citizens of other municipalities of Kosovo and since 2017 by the Government of Kosovo./ REL
