Flight chaos: Middle Eastern and Western European airports suspend travel after

Following joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran, flights between Western Europe and the Middle East have faced massive disruptions, causing chaos for passengers. Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest aviation hub, has suspended flights, while major airlines are diverting or canceling their routes.

Many airlines, including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Wizz Air, have suspended flights to and from their hubs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. Most flights passing through Iranian and Iraqi airspace have been diverted to Saudi Arabia or returned to their airports of departure.

Passengers reported unexpected disruptions. Mike Boreham, a British Airways passenger, said his flight from Dubai to Heathrow was cancelled just minutes after takeoff due to the airspace closure. The airline is helping passengers with rebookings, refunds and alternative accommodation.

The disruptions also affected flights to and from Tel Aviv, Bahrain and Amman, with several companies including Delta, United, Air France, KLM, Aegean and FlyDubai suspending travel for several days.

The British Foreign Office has updated its travel advice, warning citizens to avoid travel to Israel and Palestine and to take precautions for their safety in the region, including staying away from military installations and updating travel documents.

The situation remains tense, while regional authorities and airlines are closely monitoring developments and coordinating the safety of flights and passengers./ CNA
