DASH creates task force to help US citizens in the Middle East

The US State Department has set up a task force to assist American citizens in the Middle East and support diplomatic efforts following US and Israeli military actions against Iran, which prompted retaliatory attacks in the region.

A Department official and another source familiar with the matter confirmed that the group will coordinate information and support for Americans in affected areas, especially in the event that commercial flight options are limited.

According to the State Department, similar task forces have been created before during periods of great instability, helping to evacuate American citizens from endangered areas.

No mass evacuations are currently planned, while most US embassies in the region have urged citizens to shelter in place and follow local safety guidelines.

The situation remains tense in the Middle East, while US authorities and diplomats are monitoring events to ensure the safety of their citizens./ CNA
