Chancellor Scholz dismisses the Minister of Finance

This move by the chancellor signals deep divisions between the ruling coalition parties in Germany, consisting of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP.

The decision was confirmed in the evening (06.11) by the government spokesman in Berlin.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz gave a press conference regarding this decision explaining the situation of the governmental crisis regarding the budget and the economy and the disagreements within the coalition.

On January 15, the chancellor will present the request for a vote of confidence to the Bundestag.

Christian Lindner, who has long called for deep reforms in Germany's economy and fiscal policies, is proposing new elections for the Bundestag, suggesting that the current coalition cannot provide the stability the country needs.
