Catholic and Orthodox believers filled their churches at midnight celebrating the birth of Christ with prayers and songs, hoping for peace, prosperity and more joys.

The president of the Episcopal Conference of Albania, the Archbishop of Shkodër-Pulti, Monsignor Angelo Massafra, led the holy Christmas mass in the cathedral of "St. Stephen" in Shkodër. Archbishop Massafra said that Christmas is a holiday of love and family and called for forgiveness between people and more love and solidarity towards each other.

"May this holiday free us from any prejudice, from any hatred, blasphemy, from speaking ill of others. As a saint says, let us always do our best and do no harm to anyone. This is the lesson of Christmas." During the celebration of the mass, Monsignor Massafra called on the faithful to, following the example of Hugh, support each other by contributing to the family, society and their country, as well as avoiding any evil and prejudice towards others.

"Celebrate Christmas by loving each other, committing to be in solidarity. The Christmas holiday is the holiday of love, of family, of solidarity, because Christ is becoming solidary with us by leaving heaven and becoming a man for us".

The President of the Episcopal Conference of Albania asked the faithful to pray for peace, wherever there are wars, and for people to live in peace and harmony with each other.

While the vicar of the Orthodox church in Shkodër, Father Nikolla Petani, congratulating the believers on the Christmas holiday, he said that Christ came among people giving them love and peace.

"The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ transformed the human birth of man. God turns from a god into a god-man and lives and dwells with people. Only from the birth of our Lord Christ we must understand how good life is, how much we must love life. God came among us, giving us hope, peace, love, his heart and his life, so that anyone who believes may not be lost."

33 years after the fall of the communist system in Albania and the regaining of religious freedoms, the holidays of the religious calendar are an opportunity for the union of believers of all faiths, a tradition that is appreciated among Albanians./ Voa
