Russian attacks target energy facilities, wound 13 people/ Ukraine restricts

Ukraine has restricted electricity supplies across the country after a Russian attack damaged energy infrastructure and injured 13 people in the southeastern city of Zaporizhia.

Russian forces have struck the energy sector ahead of the heating season, temporarily cutting off electricity to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said Russia was trying to cause a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine to coincide with winter, following another massive air strike last week.

"The strike caused new damage to the energy infrastructure ," Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said on the Telegram messaging app on Thursday.

Six children were among 13 injured in the airstrikes in Zaporizhia, which also damaged five apartment buildings and infrastructure facilities, said its governor, Ivan Fedorov.

"People have acute reactions to stress, wounds, concussions, bruises and fractures," Fedorov added.

State railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported power outages in the southern Mykolaiv region, causing delays to train services and forcing it to use backup locomotives. /CNA
