Israeli attacks/ Death toll in Lebanon rises to over 3,000

At least 3,020 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon since the country entered the war on March 2, according to the latest toll from the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Among the dead are 116 health workers and 211 children, the Health Ministry said, adding that 9,273 people were wounded.

The ceasefire agreement, brokered by the United States, allows Israel to carry out attacks that it says are aimed at countering Hezbollah’s military activity. Lebanon has condemned the attacks, saying they undermine its efforts to restore exclusive state control over the armed groups’ weapons.

Since the ceasefire extension was announced on Friday, Israeli attacks on towns and villages across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley have continued, killing dozens of people.

On Saturday, there was a sweeping series of attacks on more than two dozen villages, only nine of which were preceded by evacuation warnings.

The Israeli military said on Saturday that one soldier had been killed during fighting there, bringing the number of casualties since the beginning of March to 20. Four civilians were also killed. /CNA
