Finnish authorities have revealed that the country wants to introduce stricter laws for those wishing to obtain Finnish citizenship.
Finland's Interior Minister Mari Rantanen, announcing the government's plan, said Finnish citizenship is not automatic, stressing that everyone will be required to meet stricter requirements to be granted citizenship.
Insisting that the changes will not be "unreasonable", Minister Rantanen said changes will be made to regulations regarding length of stay, income requirements and fairness.
According to Finland's Ministry of the Interior, the government led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo wants to extend the residence time for those wishing to obtain Finnish citizenship. The residency requirement will increase from the current five years to eight years./ CNA
