19 vetë kanë humbur jetën kur persona të armatosur hapën zjarr në dy bare, një në një qytet afër Johanesburgut dhe një tjetër në lindje të vendit, tha policia të dielën.

Në Soweto, 15 persona u vranë kur personat e armatosur dolën nga një furgon taksi dhe filluan të qëllonin pa dallim ndaj klientëve të barit, sipas policisë.

Në qytetin lindor të Pietermaritzburgut, policia tha se katër persona u vranë dhe tetë u plagosën gjatë një shkëmbimi zjarri në një lokal pasi dy persona hapën zjarr ndaj klientëve.

Burimet e policisë thanë se ishte shumë herët për të thënë nëse sulmet ishin të lidhura, por shtuan se kishin vënë re ngjashmëri mes tyre.

Në Soweto, policia u thirr në vendngjarje pak pas mesnate.

"Kur mbërritëm në vendngjarje, 12 persona kishin vdekur nga plagët me armë zjarri," i tha AFP-së oficerja e policisë lokale Nonhlanhla Kubheka.

Ajo shtoi se 11 persona u dërguan në spital. Tre vdiqën menjëherë pasi mbërritën. Nuk u dhanë detaje në lidhje me autorët.

"Askush nuk është arrestuar. Oficerët janë ende në vendngjarje. Ata erdhën dhe hapën zjarr ndaj njerëzve që po argëtoheshin," tha zonja Kubheka, komandante e stacionit të policisë së Orlandos në distriktin Soweto ku ndodhën të shtënat./ VOA
