Two charges against former FBI Director James Comey

A federal grand jury in the US state of Virginia has indicted former FBI Director James Comey on two charges related to his testimony before Congress.

Comey, who has long been criticized by US President Donald Trump, is accused of lying to Congress during his testimony in September 2020 regarding whether he had authorized the leak of classified information to the media.

Bondi said in a statement that the indictment "reflects this Department of Justice's commitment to holding accountable those who abuse positions of power to defraud the American people."

Comey has been indicted on one count of making false statements and another of obstructing justice.
