A car with Serbian license plates burns in the north

A car with Serbian license plates was burned on Monday after midnight in the north of Mitrovica

This is what Besim Hoti, director of the Police for the region of North Mitrovica, told Radio Free Europe.

"The incident happened at 02:05 in the morning," he said.

Hoti added that investigations are underway regarding the case.

Earlier, in the north of Kosovo, cars with RKS license plates, owned by Serbian citizens living there, were also burned.

Currently, the Kosovo authorities are implementing a three-phase plan through which citizens in the four northern municipalities of the country are encouraged to re-register their cars with RKS license plates.

Faza e parë ka paraparë qortimin, e dyta parasheh gjobën dhe më vonë parashihet të vendosen disa targa provuese.

Zbatimi i fazës së dytë, që parasheh shqiptimin e gjobave prej 150 eurosh për qytetarët që qarkullojnë me targa të tilla, është shtyrë për 48 orë.

Para shtyrjes së vendimit, Policia e Kosovës pati planifikuar që vendimin për gjobat ta zbatonte nga mëngjesi i 22 nëntorit.

Kërkesën për shtyrje 48-orëshe e kanë bërë Shtetet e Bashkuara.

Serbia - e cila lëshon targa të paligjshme për serbët e Kosovës që nga paslufta më 1999, e kundërshton këtë plan - duke insistuar në targa neutrale ndaj statusit të Kosovës.

Si pasojë e tensioneve të ngritura, serbët e veriut të Kosovës - ku qarkullojnë kryesisht makinat me targa të paligjshme - kanë dhënë dorëheqje nga institucionet e Kosovës.
