Britain, Italy and Japan begin work on the creation of a new fighter plane

The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has said that Britain will cooperate with Italy and Japan to build a new generation fighter plane.

Sunak has said that the defense partnership will ensure that Britain and its allies are "one step ahead of those who seek to harm us".

The British government aims for the new model to be in service by 2035 and serve as a successor to the RAF Typhoon model.

Britain's ambitions are to create a fast plane - faster than the speed of sound - and for it to have advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to help the pilot in case of overload or great stress.

The new model - Tempest - is also expected to have the capacity to launch hypersonic weapons.

The new model is being developed following concerns from military officials that Britain's air dominance is at risk.

"The security of the United Kingdom, today and for generations to come, will always be of paramount importance to this Government."

British authorities have said that other countries may also join the program.

France, Germany and Spain have already started working together on another design – as has the United States./REL
