WASHINGTON, May 26 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken plans to visit Sweden, Norway and Finland from May 29 to June 2, the State Department said on Friday, to deepen cooperation on national security and economic issues, while Russia's war in Ukraine continues.

In Sweden from Monday to Wednesday, Mr. Blinken and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo will lead the fourth meeting of the US-EU Trade and Technology Council, which is focused on clean technology, holding Russia accountable, supporting of Ukraine and increased trade cooperation, the State Department said in a statement.

Mr Blinken will attend a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo, Norway on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss preparations for the group's summit in Lithuania in July.

From there, he will go to Finland to meet with the leaders of NATO's most recent member, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, the State Department said.

Mr Blinken will deliver a speech in Helsinki on Friday, "to highlight all the ways in which Russian aggression against Ukraine has been a strategic failure and the West's ongoing efforts to support the defense of Ukraine's territory, sovereignty and democracy to ensure a just and lasting peace".

Finland formally joined NATO in April in a historic shift in alliance policy over Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Sweden's membership, meanwhile, has been hindered by NATO members Turkey and Hungary./ VOA
