Barricade in the Bosniak Quarter in North Mitrovica

A barricade was erected in the Boshnjak Quarter, in North Mitrovica, on December 27. The barricade is located near the Technical School.

Boshnjake neighborhood is a multi-ethnic settlement, where Albanians, Serbs and Bosniaks live, and the road where the barricade is located is one of the roads connecting North and South Mitrovica.

Also, there is information that another barricade has been erected in the place known as "Dudin Kërsh" in Zveçan, which prevents movement from South Mitrovica in the direction of Rudara, Municipality of Zveçan. However, there is still no official confirmation for the erection of this barricade.

Barrikada në Lagjen e Boshnjakëve është e para e vendosur brenda ndonjë qyteti në veri, që kur disa serbë lokalë nisën bllokimin e rrugëve më 10 dhjetor. Barrikadat e tjera janë të vendosura kryesisht në rrugë magjistrale që çojnë drejt pikëkalimeve kufitare Jarinjë dhe Bërnjak, që lidhin Kosovën dhe Serbinë.

Serbët lokalë që 18 ditë kanë ngritur barrikada në veri, në shenjë pakënaqësie me arrestimin e ish-policit serb të Kosovës, Dejan Pantiq. Autoritetet në Kosovë kanë thënë se Pantiq dyshohet për organizimin e sulmit të 6 dhjetorit ndaj zyrtarëve të Komisionit Qendror të Zgjedhjeve në veri.

Që kur janë ngritur barrikadat, në veri të Kosovës janë shënuar një numër i incidentesh me armë zjarri, granata dore dhe shok bomba.

Policia e Kosovës ka shtuar prezencën e saj në veri të Kosovës, duke thënë se synon të garantojë siguri për të gjithë qytetarët.

Authorities in Kosovo have said that "criminal gangs supported by Serbia" are behind the barricades. The government of Kosovo has said that the state has the capacity to remove the barricades, but has given time to the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, to remove the barricades.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, has stated that the barricades will be removed when Kosovo forms the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority./VOA
