Prices in April have increased beyond the seasonal trend, as they usually begin to decrease during this period due to the emergence of domestic products.

This year, the negative performance of the agricultural sector and the withdrawal of part of the production have caused inflation to reach 2.3% in April, which is the highest level in 15 months, since March 2024, mainly influenced by food prices. However, it remains below the Bank of Albania's target of 3%.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Albania, in its last meeting, decided to keep the base rate unchanged at 2.75%, which is the Bank's instrument to control inflation, while the governor warned that the economy has shown signs of slowing down in the first three months of the year.

According to INSTAT, the Consumer Price Index in April 2025 reached 119.8 compared to December 2020. The annual change in the consumer price index in April 2025 is 2.3%, a year ago this change was 2.1%. The monthly change in the consumer price index in April 2025, compared to March 2025 is 0.1%.

Growth from food

According to INSTAT, the annual price increase in April was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with +1.29 percentage points, followed by the group "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" with +0.24 percentage points.

Also, the prices of the group "Rent, water, fuel and energy" affected by +0.22 percentage points, "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by +0.19 percentage points, the prices of the group "Entertainment and culture" by +0.14 percentage points, the prices of the groups "Clothing and footwear" and "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" by 0.10 percentage points each, the prices of the group "Miscellaneous goods and services" by +0.07 percentage points, the prices of the group "Communication" by +0.04 percentage points, the prices of the group "Educational services" by +0.03 percentage points, the prices of the group "Health" by +0.02 percentage points and the prices of the group "Transport" by -0.16 percentage points./ Monitor Magazine
