Democratic MP Besart Xhaferri was present today in the Economy Committee and in his speech he focused on the situation with bank insurance.

Xhaferri ironically said that the 400% increase in bank deposit insurance in 5 years is like former Prime Minister Fatos Nano's promise to return money lost in pyramid schemes.

Xhaferri added that compared to EU countries, Albania has a very low maximum amount covered by depositors, at 2.5 million lek.

"A 400% increase in bank deposit insurance in 5 years, like Nano's promise to return money lost in pyramid schemes!"

Today, in the proceedings of the Economy Committee, I raised concerns about the insurance of bank deposits, where this government has promised to increase the value of insured bank deposits by 400% by 2030.

Currently, in Albania, the maximum amount covered for each depositor, in each bank, is 2.5 million new lek, while in the EU it is 100 thousand euros.

This government's promise to increase the insured bank deposit amount to 100,000 euros by 2030 is like Fatos Nano's pledge to return to Albanians the money lost in pyramid schemes.

"Today I asked for clarification on how Albania will manage to secure this amount of bank deposits and, above all, I exposed the fact that it is a lie that banks cover the costs for these deposits, because in the end it is the citizens who pay every cost," said Xhaferri. /CNA
