"SEPA membership, a cornerstone towards integration"/ Sejko: 11 banks

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, at the ceremony presenting SEPA transactions, stated that from today the first transaction in euros will be made through the SEPA single area.

Sejko said that this is a cornerstone towards Albania's integration into the European Union.

The Governor said that today 11 banks in Albania are ready to offer SEPA services.  

 

" Today is a special day for us as we witness a historic moment for the Albanian financial market, the launch of the first euro transaction through the single euro payments area called SEPA. This is not a technical development in payment systems, but it is a cornerstone on Albania's path towards integration into the European financial infrastructure. Albania's membership in SEPA has been the result of a structured process, where the BoA and second-tier banks and financial institutions have worked with dedication to meet the necessary technical, legal and regulatory requirements. Today, 11 banks in Albania are ready to offer SEPA services. This moment is not the fruit of coincidence, but the result of a multi-year journey of the BoA and financial institutions that have worked step by step ", he said.
