The tourist season has hit the value of the common European currency in the domestic market. The euro has reached the lowest historical levels, selling at 119.4 lek.

The trend of depreciation of the euro against the lek has continued throughout June. On June 1, 1 euro was exchanged for 120.4 lek.

The local currency has also strengthened against the US dollar. 1 dollar is exchanged at 113.2 lek, weakening by 0.52 percentage points compared to the beginning of the week.

The only two currencies that have strengthened against the lek are the British pound and the Swiss franc. One pound costs 139.1 lek in the foreign exchange market, while the franc is exchanged for 118.2 lek.

The common European currency has gained points in recent days in international markets, which makes the effects on the domestic market come due to the large supply of euros in our country.

The devaluation of the euro will hit revenues for the country's export sector, but in the situation of high inflation that has gripped Europe and the country, it is expected to bring a reduction in prices for goods purchased in eurozone markets./euronews
