The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, said in yesterday's session of the Assembly that work should be started immediately to categorically ban the use of the euro in the country, taking into account that the majority of payments in large values ??(purchases property or other assets) are made in euros.

In his speech, he emphasized that the treasury institutions, the fiscal institutions and we must stop using the euro, and make it mandatory to only use the lek within the territory of the Republic of Albania. 

"It should not be used, we must stop it as soon as possible. We not only have to stop using foreign currency as it happens all over the world, but we have to use Lek instead of Euro. We are a very Euroized economy, 50/50. The fiscal institutions, the fiscal institutions and we must stop the use of the euro, and make it mandatory to only use the lek within the territory of the Republic of Albania", said Sejko. 

He argued this by saying that this market is unfaithful and if the foreign exchange flows entering the country continue to increase, the stability of the exchange rate will be impossible.

In relation to the year 2022, the euro has depreciated by over 20%, since from 120 lek in January 2022, it is now being exchanged for 100 lek, bringing millions of euros in losses to exporting businesses./CNA
