EBRD approves a 30 million euro loan for the Durrës-Rrogozhin railway line

The loan for the rehabilitation of the Durrës - Rrogozhin railway line is expected to be approved on November 20 of this year by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The loan of 30 million euros will be used for the rehabilitation and electrification of the railway line, which has a length of about 34 km. The total cost is estimated at 120.5 million euros, while the project will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank and the European Union, which has awarded a grant of 62 million euros through the Western Balkans Investment Framework ("WBIF").

It is envisaged that the trains of the railway line will have a speed of 120 kilometers/hour. The Durrës - Rrogozhinë segment is part of the Durrës - Pogradec railway line, which is expected to connect with North Macedonia, in the village of Lin. It is part of the VIII railway corridor, which connects the Port of Durrës in Albania with North Macedonia and the Black Sea ports of Bulgaria.

This corridor is included in the main trans-European transport network, known as TEN T, giving priority to its financing./CNA
