Albanian banks earned 361 million euros net last year

Albanian banks experienced another golden year in 2024 as their profits increased by 27 percent compared to the previous year. Official data from the Association of Banks shows that for the whole of 2024, banks earned 36.1 billion lek or 361 million euros net, up from 285 million euros in 2023.

This constitutes a new absolute record, as banks have capitalized on the rapid reduction in deposit interests they pay to citizens and the more gradual decline in loan interests.

According to the data, the bank with the highest profit on a national scale was BKT. The Turkish-capital bank earned over 87 million euros last year, or 31 percent more than the year before.

Raiffeisen with 75 million euros and OTP Bank with 50 million euros were ranked second and third respectively among the banks with the highest profit in Albania. While Intesa and ABI Bank recorded 31 and 30 million euros in profits, respectively.

After the pandemic crisis, banks are experiencing a golden period in terms of profits. In the last three years, Albanian banks have earned almost 900 million euros net together, with the largest share always going to the National Commercial Bank. /CNA
