In which municipalities will elections be held?/Changes in the socialist camp

Six municipalities in the country are expected to hold early elections, due to changes in the socialist camp, from mayors who are behind bars, such as the case of Erion Veliaj, to resigned mayors who were part of the May 11 elections, or as the most recent case of the mayor of Vlora, Ermal Dredha, who resigned on Wednesday.

TIRANA

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the meeting of the National Assembly of the Socialist Party, has ordered the Tirana Municipal Council to dismiss the imprisoned mayor Erion Veliaj. During his speech, Rama stated that Veliaj must be dismissed in order to pave the way for new elections in Tirana.

In his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama proposed Ogerta Manastirliu as a candidate for mayor of Tirana.

VLORA

A day earlier, Ermal Dredha resigned from the post of mayor of Vlora, thus paving the way for early elections in this municipality .

In a letter published on social media this Thursday, he addressed the public opinion, explaining the reasons for his resignation as mayor of Vlora. Dredha emphasized that this decision does not mean abdicating from public responsibility, but is a conscious act to create space for new ideas and development rhythms for the municipality.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the meeting of the National Assembly of the Socialist Party, also commented on the resignation of Ermal Dredha. Despite criticism of the work in this municipality, Rama said that Dredha's resignation is an indication of a man who loves Vlora. According to Rama, the only problem he had was that he softened up too much.

Berat

Elections are also expected to be held in Berat, after Ervin Demo resigned from the post of mayor to run in the May 11 elections, taking on the mandate of MP. Rama this Thursday also proposed Demo as Minister of State for Local Government.

TEPELENA

Tepelena will also go to the polls, after Mayor Tërmet Peçi resigned to run in the May 11 elections, taking the mandate of MP.

THE CIRRICK

The city of Cerrik will also have the same fate, as the current mayor of Cerrik, Andi Salla, was proposed in the SP Assembly by Rama for the position of Minister of Agriculture. In order to keep the position of minister, Salla will have to resign as mayor, paving the way for new elections in this municipality.

Matija

The Mayor of Mati, Agron Malaj, resigned to run in the May 11 elections, from which he received the mandate of deputy, thus leaving the position vacant in the Municipality of Mati./ CNA
