Exclusive-Rama asked Veliaj to resign

Today, Prime Minister Edi Rama has demanded that Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj be removed from office, dismissed, and that the capital city go to elections.

This is due to the fact that, after 7 months, as Rama said, "Tirana has no mayor in office. Tirana has great and countless tasks day and night. I do not take any credit from the mayor, today we must make a political decision to pave the way for mayoral elections in Tirana."

In fact, CNA has learned from official sources that the Prime Minister has requested that Erion Veliaj resign.

The same sources emphasized that this has happened a long time ago but the mayor has refused to do this fact. Edi Rama was seen in real embarrassment when asked on journalist Blendi Fevziu's show on September 4th whether there would be elections in Tirana, he said that he did not know, that he was being consulted but he never firmly said that no, there are no elections in Tirana.

Then there were rumors that some people close to the Prime Minister were demanding that Erion Veliaj stay in office and that Rama intervene in justice and that he be released from prison. One of the people who has done so openly is Mero Baze, and this is the reason for his break with Prime Minister Rama. Baze has come out openly demanding that Veliaj be kept in office and continue working.

So openly that he has even defended DP officials in his open fight against SPAK, without talking further about the daily deceptions that he writes or publishes on his page.

Today, in an anonymous reaction on Mero Baze's portal, it went as far as threatening Rama with a confrontation in the constitutional court and emphasized that not even the prime minister has the right to dismiss Veliaj.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, for his part, seems to have truly distanced himself from the actions of justice and today has only shown his embarrassment. After Erion Veliaj refused to resign, he has seen the legal reasons for how he should act and has asked the Municipal Council to proceed with the dismissal of Erion Veliaj and to move forward with the candidacy of Ogerta Manastirliu to hold elections in Tirana, at the same time as many other municipalities to which Vlora was added after yesterday's resignation of Ermal Dredha, Tepelena, Mati and Berat after Ervin Demo was elected MP and became a minister, while today Cerriku was added, whose mayor today took the post of Minister of Agriculture./ CNA
