Drugs in schools, police respond to CNA/ Measures taken and awareness campaigns

Drugs in schools is an increasingly present problem, which has worried the authorities, schools, parents and society. The impact of the use of narcotic substances on young Albanians is a phenomenon that has received public attention and reinforced the need for preventive measures.

Based on this situation, CNA has sent a letter to the main institutions in the country. The State Police responded to CNA's interest this Monday, while on November 27, the Ministry of Education responded positively to the request for information.

The police informs that regarding the role of policing in the community, specialists of this sector, in all 12 police departments, periodically hold meetings, lessons and awareness campaigns with students of 9-year-old schools and high schools, with the main theme of the war against the use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol in schools.

In the letter, it is also evident that in addition to the daily work, to prevent and attack the production or sale of narcotics in schools, the State Police, in 2023, designed and implemented the police mega-operation coded "Temple".

We recall that this operation echoed in the media, as criminal groups were hit, which distributed cocaine near schools.

The police informs CNA that "during the period 2023-September 2024, as part of this operation, 1673.3 kg of Cannabis, 22.4 kg of Cocaine, 11 kg of Heroin, tens of thousands of doses of these substances, doses of Ecstasy, Letamine, GBH, LSD were seized , Methamphetamine and Poppers, 40 736 cubes of narcotics, 15 264 Cannabis seeds and 30 firearms.

For the production or sale of narcotics, during this operation, 1527 citizens were brought before the criminal responsibility".

Also, during the period 2023-2024, 1303 citizens were criminally prosecuted for the criminal offense "Trafficking in narcotics".
