Wisner: There is political pressure on justice, there will be more vetting

The representative of the American embassy in Tirana, David Wisner, in the activity organized within the Justice Day, stated that the USA is proud to support justice in Albania. 

In his speech, he underlined that politicians should do more for democracy and justice. 

Wisner further underlined that since there is political pressure, public expectations are high from justice institutions.

"The rule of law should be at the center of our commitments, the Reform in Justice is not easy or perfect, all Albanian citizens will be proud of the work done. You and other independent institutions are bringing accountability to the justice system by taking action against organized crime. The challenges you face are great, there are obstacles and there will be more vetting. Since there is political pressure, public expectations are high. Your work is very important. The meeting is an example that institutions cannot work alone. The US is proud to work with justice to help Albania have a better future. Reform in Justice is irreversible. We expect the legal institutions to be long-term, the Albanian people demand your efforts to improve governance. More needs to be done by politicians. The US will support the reform effort in accordance with the constitution and the independence of the judiciary, we encourage more cooperation on reforms. It is an important step for the Albanian people. It is not only for justice institutions. Albania, the US and the EU have faith", he said./ CNA
