The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has reacted today after the positive assessment by the European Commission for its results in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

The European Commission considered SPAK as a key element of justice reform.

The European Commission gave these assessments during the 16th meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security between the European Union and Albania, held on 11 and 12 February 2025.

In a public statement, SPAK shared part of the European Commission's message, emphasizing that the institution's independence and role in investigating and prosecuting complex cases have been essential for Albania's progress.

"The European Commission welcomed the continued results of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), during the 16th meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom and Security, between the European Union and Albania, held on 11 and 12 February 2025.

“The role of SPAK and its independence in investigating, prosecuting and adjudicating complex corruption and organised crime cases has been the cornerstone of the 2016 justice reform, the continued consolidation of which the EU supports and promotes as an integral part of Albania’s accession negotiations. SPAK has contributed to Albania’s overall efforts to provide a credible track record against serious crime, organised crime and corruption, including at high levels.” /CNA
