Preliminary hearing for Veliaj at the Special Court today

A preliminary hearing for Mayor Erion Veliaj is taking place today at the Special Court.

The Criminal Court of Kosovo will decide today whether or not to proceed to trial the case against the mayor, who faces 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

We recall that the preliminary hearing for Veliaj was scheduled to be held on November 17, but was postponed because the mayor's lawyers requested time to familiarize themselves with the documents.

Meanwhile, we would like to point out that this was not the first time that Veliaj's lawyers have requested a postponement.

The preliminary hearing on November 12 was postponed due to the same request as the one on November 17, the lawyers' request to familiarize themselves with the documents. Documents that Veliaj's lawyers have received since July.

The preliminary hearing was set to be held on October 28, but Veliaj's lawyers again used their strategies and tactics to postpone the hearing.

Earlier, the preliminary hearing for Veliaj was postponed due to a boycott by lawyers on October 10, following the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom, while the second time, on October 21, it was postponed due to a boycott following the lawyer's arrest in Elbasan.

While on September 29, the preliminary hearing was postponed due to the lack of notification of some of the defendants. SPAK has copied Veliaj's file and sent it for trial.

It remains to be seen whether the preliminary hearing will be held today or whether Veliaj's lawyers and "soldiers" will again find a reason to postpone the hearing./CNA
