Employees usually see frequent and long meetings as unnecessary and an expression of excessive bureaucratization of work processes.

However, a poll conducted on the website and social networks of "Monitor" showed that, in fact, most voters do not perceive meetings at work as a problem.

According to the results of the survey, 38% of voters say that meetings at work should be regular.

34% of voters in the survey are not against meetings, but think they should be short. Only 21% of voters in the survey think that meetings at work are usually unnecessary. A minority of 7% of voters think that meetings at work should be rare.

However, survey results tend to be different depending on the communication channel and the type of audience. In the survey conducted on the website monitor.al, approximately 37% of voters think that meetings should be regular, while 27% of them think that meetings are usually unnecessary.

In the survey conducted on Linkedin, the alternative that meetings should be regular reaches 39%, while only 15% of voters say that meetings are usually unnecessary. The most voted alternative in the Linkedin poll is that meetings should be short, by 40% of participants. So, among a more specialized segment of the audience, the problem seems to be especially the fact that the meetings are longer than they should be.

The perception regarding meetings within companies can be different, also depending on the level of hierarchy. For managers, meetings can be perceived as a more effective way to gather information, exchange ideas, solve problems, make decisions or increase pressure on employees to achieve objectives.

On the other hand, employees often perceive meetings as a waste of time for issues that can be pursued with less formal ways of communication or discussion, while the time spent in meetings can be used in a more productive way.

The frequency and efficiency of meetings for better decision-making is often the subject of discussion when it comes to company management.

According to a survey conducted by the specialist consulting company McKinsey, 61% of executives said that at least half of the time they spent making decisions (the largest part spent in meetings) was ineffective. Another survey showed that 80% of executives were already considering or implementing changes to the structure and pace of meetings in response to changes the pandemic brought about in the way they work.

When meetings don't go well, or when there are too many of them, decision-making becomes slower and the quality of the decisions made suffers as a result.

Rarely, according to McKinsey's analysis, do managers see the real problem, which seems to be the poor organization and execution of interaction in the company, or, to put it simply, ineffective meetings./ Monitor Magazine
