"Grape production this year, at a high level and quality"

The year 2024 has turned out to be good for wineries for grape production. Amir Pupa, from Kantina Pupa, claims that the quality of grape production has been high, which promises a good year for the summer as well.

How did the proposal for participation in the World Tasting Championship come about and what does participation in this event mean for your winery?

The proposal came from an oenologist of Albanian origin who lives in France, who also selected the wines of our winery for an activity such as the World Tasting Championship.

It is a great honor for us to participate and we are very proud that our winery and Berat indigenous grape wines participate in this world-class tasting.

Where does this participation consist of the labels you have?

Our labels come from some very old grape varieties in Berat, which already have a great potential for wine production. They are unique, you cannot find them anywhere and they give wines with special structures and aromas.

How was the year 2024 for you in the increase in attendance and consumption as an effect of tourism, considering the positive progress that the connection of the two sectors has had, especially in the past two years?

The year 2024 has been extraordinary and there has been massive attendance from all over the world, but also the locals who have consumed wine in our winery, but not only, as we have the restaurant as an integrated part.

How is this year shaping up for your winery's grape production?

The production of grapes this year is at a high and stable level and quality.

What are some of the sector's challenges that you think need attention and how can wine tourism, which is a segment with potential for growth in the country, be further promoted?

The challenges of the wine sector are several, but I think that first there should be policies that promote the presence of Albanian wine in every restaurant. A tourist, when he comes to Albania, looks for indigenous wine and not imported wine that is produced abroad and comes to Albania.

As for wine tourism, it is already a reality in Berat, where our winery welcomes tourists from all over the world, who are wine admirers./ Monitor.al
