The phase of preparations for May 23rd ends/ Kaso: Democrats elect the president

The Secretary for Legal Affairs in the Democratic Party, Ivi Kaso, announced in a statement to the media that the phase of preparations for the May 23 elections has been completed, where the Democrats will elect their leader by referendum.

Kaso announced that voting centers will be set up in all DP branches, from 08:00 to 18:00, where Democrats will cast their votes. Meanwhile, more than 1 voting center will be set up in large branches.

This Saturday, 77 branches of the Democratic Party across Albania will vote in a referendum for the president.

Full statement:

On behalf of the Committee for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations of the Democratic Party, I announce that the preparation phase for the process on May 23rd has been completed, where the Democrats will elect their leader by referendum, according to the principle of 1 member, 1 vote.

Voting centers will be set up in all branches of the Democratic Party where, from 08:00 to 18:00, Democrats are called to vote en masse, in this expression of direct democracy. In large branches, according to requests, it has been determined that more than 1 voting center may be set up.

This Saturday, 77 branches of the Democratic Party throughout Albania will vote in a referendum for the president in an exercise in democracy.

The Democratic Party is proud because, since the establishment of the Re-establishment Commission, until May 23, it has conducted 7 open, direct and democratic electoral processes.

The complete opposite of the 'one member, one vote' principle occurs in the 'bunker party', where elections have not been held for more than a decade and every appointment is made according to the autocratic 'one leader, one vote' principle.

Once again, I call on all democrats to exercise their right to vote in Saturday's referendum. /CNA
